Golf

Golf is an outdoor game. It is played by individual players or in teams where a small ball and clubs are used. The aim of the game is putting the ball into a hole with the most minimum strokes.

A round of golf consists of playing a number of holes, usually 18-holes. But there are courses that have 9, 12 or 15 holes. A hole consists of three primary areas:

  • The Tee - the flat starting point where the player hits the ball.
  • The Fairway - a long stretch of mown grass.
  • The Putting Green – this is the smooth grass where the hole itself is.

A golf course also consists of obstacles such as areas of sand (bunkers), high grass (rough), and trees, are placed at various points.

In a golf game the winner is determined when he/she completes a round with the lowest number of strokes. Here is what we call them:

Par – this is the expected number of stokes a good player would be expected to play for any given hole.

Birdie – This is when the player holes the ball in one stroke below par.

Eagle – This is two strokes below par.

Bogey – This is one shot over par.

Hole in One – As the name suggests, an occasional possibility.

Players may carry up to 14 clubs in their golf bag. With each designed for a specific purpose and shot. Players can get around the golf course by walking or with the assistant of a golf buggy.
